Privacy Policy

Effective date: 14 August 2026

The short version: Green Book is a members-only networking platform for people building and investing in sustainable industries. We collect what you give us to run your account, profile, connections, and messages. Your login email is not shown on your public profile. We do not sell your data or run advertising analytics.

Green Book is an independent project operated at greenbook.global. It is not yet a registered company; the operator acts as the data controller for the purposes described below.

1. Who we are

“Green Book”, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to the operator of the Green Book platform at greenbook.global (also referred to on the site as Green Book Global).

For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, use the contact form on our homepage. Please include “Privacy request” in your message so we can prioritise it. We do not publish a direct privacy email address on this site.

2. What Green Book is

Green Book connects creators, founders, and investors in sustainable industries. The platform provides account registration, editable profiles, a members-only discover directory, connection requests, optional following, blocking, and private one-to-one messaging between accepted connections. Green Book is not a payment processor, employer, or data broker.

3. Information we collect

We collect information in these categories:

Category Examples Why we use it
Account data Email address, password (stored securely by our authentication provider), display name, role (creator or investor), email verification status Create and secure your account, sign you in, reset your password
Google sign-in data If you choose “Continue with Google”, Google may share your name, email address, and profile photo with us through the sign-in flow Create or sign in to your account without a separate password
Profile data Photo, bio, location, personal website, social links, interest keywords, what you are looking for, optional startup teaser, and (for investors) investment focus and ticket range notes Display your profile and match you with relevant members
Social graph data Connection requests and intro messages, accepted connections, follows, blocks Run networking features such as requests, follows, and blocking
Messages Message text, timestamps, read receipts, typing indicators, and unread counts Provide private chat between accepted connections
Contact form submissions Name (optional), email address, and message text from the public homepage form Reply to your inquiry. We only use your email to respond.
Local preferences Theme choice (gb-theme) and message notification sound preference (gb-message-sound) stored in your browser Remember your display and notification preferences
Authentication session Session tokens managed by our authentication provider in your browser Keep you signed in between visits

Your account email is private. When your profile is public, other signed-in members can see the profile fields you choose to share — but we do not put your login email address in your public profile document.

4. What we do not collect or do

  • We do not process payment or billing information on Green Book.
  • We do not run first-party advertising, marketing analytics, or behavioural tracking tools in the app.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

5. How profile visibility works

  • Private profile: Only you can edit it. Other members cannot discover it in the directory.
  • Published profile: Signed-in members can see it in Discover and on your member page, including the fields you have filled in.
  • Connection intro messages are visible only to the two people involved in the request.
  • Chat messages are visible only to participants in that conversation.
  • Blocking: If you block someone, they cannot send you new requests or messages. Block records are visible only to you as the blocker.

6. How we use your information

We use personal information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the platform
  • Authenticate you and keep your account secure
  • Show profiles, suggested matches, connections, and messages
  • Send transactional emails such as email verification, password reset (via our authentication provider), and connection-request notifications
  • Respond to messages sent through our contact form
  • Enforce platform rules and protect members

7. Legal bases for processing (EEA, UK, and similar laws)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or a region with similar laws, we rely on:

  • Contract: Processing needed to provide the service you sign up for (accounts, profiles, connections, messaging).
  • Consent: When you choose to publish your profile or otherwise make information visible to other members.
  • Legitimate interests: Operating and securing the platform, sending connection-request notifications, and replying to contact-form messages — balanced against your rights.

8. Third-party services

We use trusted providers to run Green Book. They process data on our behalf only as needed to provide their service:

  • Google Firebase — authentication, database, file storage, and cloud functions (Google / Firebase privacy information)
  • Google Sign-In — optional account login (Google Privacy Policy)
  • Resend — transactional email when someone sends you a connection request (Resend Privacy Policy)
  • Formspree — homepage contact form submissions (Formspree Privacy Policy)
  • Google Fonts — typography loaded from Google’s servers when you visit the site (Google Privacy Policy)
  • GitHub Pages — hosting of the public website (GitHub Privacy Statement)

These providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses offered by major cloud providers.

9. Cookies and local storage

Green Book does not set first-party advertising cookies. We do use:

  • Authentication persistence — our authentication provider stores session information in your browser (for example local storage or IndexedDB) so you stay signed in.
  • Local preferences — theme and message-sound settings stored under gb-theme and gb-message-sound.
  • Google Fonts — your browser requests font files from Google; Google may receive technical data such as your IP address.

You can clear site data through your browser settings. Clearing authentication data will sign you out.

10. Retention

  • Account and profile data are kept until you delete your account or ask us to remove them.
  • Messages you send may remain visible to people you exchanged them with even after you delete your account, so their conversation history is not silently altered.
  • Contact form submissions are retained according to Formspree’s policies and for as long as needed to respond and keep a record of the inquiry.
  • Server and email logs may be kept for a limited period by our providers for security and troubleshooting.

11. Account deletion

You can delete your account from your profile settings (“Delete my profile”). When you do, we remove your profile document, profile photo, connections, follows, blocks you created, and your authentication account.

As noted above, messages you already sent may remain visible to other participants. Some technical copies may persist for a short time in backups or provider logs before they are overwritten.

12. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate profile information (you can edit most of this in your profile)
  • Delete your account and associated profile data
  • Withdraw consent, for example by unpublishing or deleting your profile
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

To exercise these rights, use the contact form and include “Privacy request” in your message. We may need to verify that you control the account concerned before fulfilling a request.

13. Security

We use industry-standard measures including HTTPS encryption in transit, access rules on our database, and separation between public profile data and private account credentials. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; please use a strong, unique password and keep your login details confidential.

14. Children

Green Book is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you are between 13 and 15, please use the platform only with the permission of a parent or guardian.

The platform is built for professional networking and does not host explicit, violent, or adult-only content. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, please contact us through the homepage form and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

15. International users

Green Book is available globally. If you use the platform from outside the country where our providers operate, your information may be transferred to and processed in other countries with different data-protection laws. By using Green Book, you understand that your information may be processed as described in this policy.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may also post a notice on the site. Continued use of Green Book after an update means you accept the revised policy.
